The Grand Opening of the South Gate
Last Friday, on the eve of the opening ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games, Colin McCauley of Newham Council cut the ribbon to the South-gate of the Canning Town Caravanserai, declaring the site offically open for the summer. Over the last year, this team of young architects and volunteers led by Ash Sakula, have transformed this empty site opposite Canning Town Station into a community space. The site is now open, with 10 kiosks occupied by local traders, making and trading goods ranging from up-cycled gifts to natural skin products.
